Hardley Windmill

The Wherryman's Way Windmill

Welcome to the Hardley Windmill Trust Website

Hardley Mill is maintained as the most active mill on the Norfolk Broads.  The turning sails attract visitors from far and wide.

The drive to the pump is now fully restored.

Mill open to Visitors

The mill is open on weekends from May to September.  Admission to the visitor centre is free.  Admission to the mill is £3.00 per adult.

The restored mill and visitor centre are accessible to visitors via the Wherryman's Way footpath or the river side moorings.

There are several events planned is support of the ongoing work on the mill.  Highlights include a visit by trading wherry Maud and the famous Midsummer Frolic.

Mill opening times

The visitor centre and mill are open as follows

Sundays April to June and September (often also on Saturdays if volunteers are available).

Saturdays and Sundays in July and August

During the week, there are frequently members of FoHW working at the mill. They will often be able to show visitors around, but access may be limited depending on the nature of work being carried out—please don’t be offended if it is not possible to view the mill.

If the sails are turning—we are open.

Moorings

The floating pontoon moorings at Hardley Mill are available for use for visitors to the mill and those looking for a peaceful spot to stay for the night. The moorings are equipped with electricity hook up points which can be activated using pre paid cards. For a list of card retailers please click here.

Note - There is an overnight mooring fee of £5.00.

Please respect the notices regarding maximum stay times for daytime mooring at the weekends. This is to allow those that want to visit the mill access to the moorings.

There are no drinking water or litter disposal facilities at the mill, so please plan your stay accordingly.

Mill Directions

Located at the halfway point of Wherryman's Way, the mill and visitor centre are an ideal stopping off point.

Nearest car parking is at Hardley Staithe.  From there walk up the footpath on the left hand side of the staithe.  Follow path along riverside until you reach the windmill (approx 1 mile).

There is no access to the mill by car (unless by prior arrangement).
